My colleague Johan Fynbo and I recently purchased a small portable telescope called "Seestar S50" which makes astrophotographing so easy it almost feels like cheating. This is an image of the Iris Nebula that I captured while staying in Jylland with my daughter, Iris.
The exposure time is 52 minutes, and the field of view is roughly 0.5 degrees a across (the size of a full moon).
The nebula is a "reflection nebula", full of dust that blocks light from the background stars, but is lit up by the light of a central star (HD 200775) reflecting off of the dust grains.
